Licensing: How It Works

We provide you with a license that allows you to legally include music in your fitness DVD, television program or commercial.

While licensing music can be complex, our service simplifies the process...

Generally, licensing music for use in a video-based production requires two types of licenses: 1) Master Use License and 2) Video Synch license.

In addition, sales of your DVD have to be reported and royalties must be paid on the DVDs you sell.

Our site makes licensing easy by:

  1. Providing the music "royalty free" -- this avoids the need to have to report sales of your DVD and making royalty payments ongoingly. Make just one "upfront payment" that covers your licensing needs (see Licensing Terms below).
  2. Issuing Just One License -- our single license covers the Master Use and Video Synch licenses, addressing both licensing requirements at once
  3. Dealing With Multiple Artists and Labels -- instead of spending your time chasing down and negotiating licenses with 2, or 3, or 4, or 5, or even 10 labels at a time, we've already done the work for you. Access a wide variety of artists while licensing from just one source.
Licensing Terms

By making an upfront "buyout" payment, our Basic License allows you to sell your DVD:

  • Worldwide
  • For up to 10 years
  • For up to 15,000 units

Again, because our music is royalty-free, you will not have to report sales and pay royalties ongoingly. You will merely estimate how many DVD units you expect to sell.

If you estimate that you will sell more than 15,000 units, an Extended License will be required. To arrange an Extended License, please request a custom quote.

Tip: Unless you are a well-known fitness personality, selling more than 15,000 units usually requires significant distribution and a large marketing budget. Only a small percentage of DVDs actually exceed 15,000 units.
